Tickets are $50, available online at HistoricMansfield.tix.com. The Celebration will be filmed for a special presentation on The Country Network.

Entertainment will be provided by noted singer-songwriter Jim Lauderdale and by Steve Dorff, who wrote several of the songs made famous by the movie. Afterward, the Mack & Dyan Band will carry the boot-scooting’ until closing time. There will be a silent auction, featuring an autographed movie script, guitars, posters and paraphernalia.

Playwright and screenwriter Rex McGee, author of the PURE COUNTRY movie, will share stories about the cast and production of the movie. Steve Dorff will share about the new musical, which will debut locally this June.

Artist Wanted for Mansfield 88 Piano Project

  • Mansfield Animal Control Facility

Downtown Mansfield, inc. (DMi), a non-profit organization, is seeking local artists to paint murals on a working piano located on the front porch of the Mansfield Animal Control Facility, 407 Industrial Blvd, Mansfield, TX 76063.

1.SUBMISSION & CONTACT INFORMATION

Questions and proposals should be e-mailed to downtownmansfieldtx@gmail.com. Proposal design mockups should be be e-mailed in PDF format. Download and refer to the attached PDF document for submission requirements.  We will accept applications until 6PM on March 19th.

2. PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The goal of the 88 Project is to create public installations of exciting, interactive art that will intrigue, entertain and inspire our community. DMi is seeking an artist to create two-dimensional murals on a well-used piano. The resulting artful piano will remain at this outdoor location, making art and music accessible for the community to enjoy.

For this project, DMi is seeking a bright, colorful animal-based theme.  The design should take into consideration that the piano will be displayed outdoors and will be subject to the elements and potential vandalism. Murals should be visually active/busy with no large open spaces to minimize the opportunity for graffiti. Designs should be picture-based, not word-based. If the design includes text, it should be incidental to the design with no text over 3” in height. Designs should be appropriate for a diverse, broad-based audience of all ages. Designs that include logos, copyrighted or trademarked images, advertisements, or political, commercial, religious, or sexual symbols, themes or messages will not be accepted.

The canvas (original condition) piano is now at the Animal Control Facility and the artist will paint the piano at that location. All work must be completed within seven days of start.

All sides of this canvas piano will need to be painted. The artist should cover the back with plywood or other solid material to create a good surface on which to paint. The artist may need to prime the surfaces of the canvas pianos. The surface treatment must allow the piano to be tuned and played.

The piano and murals will become the sole property of DMi. Pianos may be repainted. In the event that a piano becomes permanently damaged by weather or other circumstances, the piano will be removed from the project and may be auctioned off as art. Proceeds will go to DMi.
